LokiTorrent pulling a fast one?

Just to be clear folks, this is an unproven rumour, but apparently a story appeared on the popular ‘p2pforum’ site on Saturday saying that LokiTorrent, now famous for vowing to fight cartel legal attacks, is actually in negotiations with the cartel to shut down and get the lawsuit dropped. The story was then removed, with no announcement from p2pforum saying it was a hoax or anything like that.

This is despite having collected over $45,000 to ‘fight the MPAA’. Since the lawsuit hasn’t begun yet (and therefore lawyers fees probably haven’t been paid), do LokiTorrent plan to refund that money to the people who donated it- after all this is no great task since their donations are taken via PayPal (which keeps a record of everyone who has paid you and how much etc. etc.).

I have to admit that I was never entirely sure about LT’s motives, but if this story is true could they not be sued for fraud/getting money under false pretences or whatever US law calls it? (their site explicity promises that every penny of the legal fund donations will go towards fighting the MPAA).

As I said at the start of the article, there has been no official announcement on this from either LokiTorrent or the cartel, but it is in the community’s interest that the allegation is publicised.
