Love your Tiger stripes

Wednesday, March 30th, 2005

Earlier on I had a good look at the ‘preview tour’ of the new version of OS X, and man does that look like a sweet operating system. Sure, none of your Doze games will work on it, but when you can get the following for Mac OS they should lessen the blow somewhat (bearing in mind that a Mac can be much better for other tasks such as graphics editing and a computer that doesn’t crash):

The list goes on, but the only really significant PC game that’s missing from the list is Half Life 2, and if you buy a mac then you probably want to keep it spyware-free anyway.

EDIT: Post 100! Hooray!

Ah, fragging bliss

Finally dug out my old copy of Quake 3 after an extended disk reformat the other week- I had forgotten just how good the game is. There is still the usual Q3 Vs UT argument, but to a (less than ladder-class) veteran UT player like me the fast pace offered by Q3 is a completely different experience. Rather than the UT having a couple of weapons to do each job (sniper rifle and lightning gun for sharpshooting, rocket launcher and flak cannon for spamming and minigun and shock rifle for mixed-range) along with some weapons which serve no useful purpose (bio rifle), every weapon in Q3 has its use. The gauntlet is for mercilessly humiliating someone (or sneaking up behind a camper), the machinegun is for when you don’t have anything else yet, the shotgun is for ULTRA close range (no fifty-foot flack cannon kills here folks), etc. etc. It’s like the whole Pepsi Vs Coke thing, there are really sad people on each side who refuse to have anything to do with the other, but your life really is incomplete unless you experience both to the full

Sony fined for copyright infringement

Monday, March 28th, 2005

I’m a great fan of the PS2 console, but its nice to see that Sony, a full member of the sue-12-year-olds cartel has been fined $90 million and told to stop making, selling and importing Playstation stuff in the USA because of… infringement of intellectual property rights. To make it simpler, I’ll use the cartel’s typical phrasing: Sony knowingly and willingly violated the law by pirating Immersion’s force-feedback technology. Piracy is one of the greatest threats facing the technology and entertainment industries and all pirates must be brought to justice (sic). Nice to see the cartel getting a taste of their own medicine

Not the worst that could happen

Sunday, March 27th, 2005

I had to admit that I was fearing the worst at the start of the Scotland-Italy game last night. OK we lost 2-0, but if we still had bumbling Berti in charge that would have tripled. The second half was actually a better performance than I’ve seen in a while, and should certainly give us hope for the future. To be honest, our World Cup campaign was over before Walter Smith even took charge, but I think we will at least have a chance in the Euro 2008 qualifiers

Thank you Mr Flight

Thanks to Howard Flight departing from the Tory script, it looks like we may well have been condemned to another 5 years of Blairite government. I have no great affection for the Tories, but I don’t think I could put up with another government stuffed full of Tony’s Cronies.
