The Holy Father, Pope John Paul II, has suffered an infection, septic shock and heart failure as the result of a high fever. He has been given the last rites and a Vatican spokesman has described his condition as ‘very serious’. That is about as much information as anyone has right now, there is supposed to be a news update from the Vatican at about 11.30 (GMT) so I will bring you any news from that as soon as I find out. If you’d prefer to see the update yourself most TV news channels will probably be screening it (if you’re in the UK then the BBC and Sky News are).
