Guild Wars goes on sale

Thursday, April 28th, 2005

As you read this, a copy of Guild Wars is making its way to me via the monopolistic monolith that is the Royal Mail. Here’s hoping it gets here by the weekend, so I can get a decent shot at playing it before my period of near-constant studying for Advanced Highers kicks in.

Post to nowhere

The Guild Wars announcement was supposed to be on a Wordpress ‘Post to Future’, but for some reason (maybe because I hadn’t set the blog to BST yet) it didn’t work (even when I fixed the BST issue). Luckily I was around to copy the contents of the post to a new one, and I’ll wait and see what happens to the other PTF I have set up for the next couple of days. But hey, its the only problem I have actually had with Wordpress since I installed it.

Not so good…

EA Games Espana (who, if you remember from a previous post, were the first to give a firm release date for Battlefield 2) have posted minimum system requirements for the game. I have two problems:

  • My graphics card (Geforce FX5600) doesn’t seem to be on the list of compatible cards (although it seems to say that anything that can do DX9.0b will suffice, and since my card handles Half Life 2’s DX9.0c that should be fine)
  • 1Gb of RAM recommended spec. OK, so I have half that, but my decent processor (P4 3.2Ghz w/HT) and decent amount of VRAM (the 5600 has 256Mb on it) should hopefully compensate for that.

I’ll see what the reviews say, but if the performance issue seems major I may end up having to wait for a demo (for performance testing) before I buy the game. Grr.

Hurrah and indeed hooray

I just received an e-mail from Play telling me that they have sent out my copy of Guild Wars (email actually sent at 11am this morning but I was elsewhere), so I should hopefully get it by the weekend after all. If there are any other GW fans out there, I’ll see you on the servers!

Broken record

Tuesday, April 26th, 2005

Apparently Tony Blair is whining about the number of attacks on his (lack of?) personality and character. He would prefer the public and his political opponents to focus on his record. So, in a rare act of agreement with President Tony, I’ve put a Javascript from the Iraq Body Count in the sidebar. That should make Tony’s ‘record’ clear to all of us.

EDIT: The size of the graphic made it look out of place in the sidebar, so here’s a link to the Iraq Body Count instead
