As a Celtic fan, I would just like to register my disgust at the treatment of the (now former) captain Jackie McNamara. As usual, the board decided to keep the £9.5m made from the Champions League campaign in the biscuit tin, rather than spending some of it on the team to ensure that we are capable of getting into the Champions League next season.
This is a player who is, as they say, ‘Celtic minded’- he has served the club tirelessly for the past ten years, and yet it was only when he was actually on his way to Wolverhampton that Peter Lawell offered him a halfway-decent new contract.
Manchester United fans complain about Glazer- but the American will only get his money back if the team do well in the Champions League and other major competitions. This lot honestly couldn’t care less how many fantastic players Celtic lose. Season tickets are impossible to get, but as for merchandise, TV channel etc. I will not be paying any more of my money for anything related to the club while these money-grabbers are in charge.
UPDATE: Rather predictably, on the same day that this farce concluded, I received an e-mail asking for more money- this time in the form of preordering the new kit. Not bloody likely.
