Blog numbers double every five months

That’s according to the latest Technorati State of the Blogosphere Report. They’re tracking 14 million weblogs now compared to 7 million in March of this year Also, it says that Wordpress is growing rapidly, through both self-installed systems (like mine),and hosting packages which use Wordpress as the main point of their advertising.

This is what WP needs- something that Movable Type et al have singularly failed to do. People who want more control (and less adverts) than the likes of Blogger, LiveJournal, M$N Spaces etc. give them, but don’t want the bother of installing Wordpress themselves can now get a webhost to do it for them. The fact that Wordpress is licensed under the GPL is what makes this possible- hosting providers wanting to do this with MT would have to pay massive license fees to SixApart, which in turn would bump up the price of the hosting package.

With Wordpress, anyone can do [more or less] anything they want with it, commercial or otherwise, so fully-installed Wordpress solutions can be offered for the same price as a standard hosting account.

Rock on!
