BBC to stream programs, continue extorting money from public

According to the BBC’s website, the organisation will put its content online, though an as-yet-unrevealed ‘MyBBCPlayer’. Despite the director-general’s assertion that this represents ‘innovation’ (it doesn’t, and has been possible for years) the BBC is still content to derive its existence from the outdated and unfair TV tax, which everyone in this country has to pay for the ‘privilege’ of owning a TV whether or not they actually watch the BBC’s output. Since we are supposedly a ‘free market’ economy, and in the interests of fairnesss, the license fee should be scrapped, and replaced with a subscription so that the BBC has to produce programs that people actually want to watch- and those who don’t want its poor quality output and leftwing bias aren’t forced by the state to continue subsidising those who do.

[EDIT] This is the 250th post. Hurrah etc.[/EDIT]

Damn right the tv licencse is gayness in the extreme if im to get a new games console im gonna have to find a monitor to play it on as im not getting a licencse. And almost all the HD TFT/LCD computer monitors are also TV capable so that means a licence for them. ABSOLUTE FUCKING GAYNESS. Adverts are cool every other TV station shows them why should the BBC be any different.

  2. Lard:

If you are only using the TV for playing games you do NOT need a TV license (it’s only if you are using it to receive broadcasts) - all you do is write to the TV License agency and tell them - see their FAQ page for the address.

Also, don’t even THINK of playing console games on a PC monitor. Remember how appaling it looks when you switch to 640×480 on your PC? A TV screen (and therefore console game) is 420xsomething

well ive heard that the xbox360 comes with a vga cable specifically to link to tft monitors and it looks good, actually it was demoed on a tft monitor so its not as bad as that, and yes i would need a tv liscence as you need one for anything that has the ABILITY to recieve TV broadcasts even a video card capable of receiving tv signals needs a liscence.

If you have a TV on the premises and no liscence, no matter what its being used for be it watching TV or not then they will not care and just slap the fine on you.

  4. I meant to put a link in that last comment, but never mind.

This is quoted directly from the TV Licensing Agency’s website:

What if I only use a TV to watch videos/DVDs/as a monitor for my games console? Do I still need a licence?

You need to notify us in writing that this is the case and one our Enforcement Officers may need to visit you to confirm that you do not need a licence.

Please write to us including your name, address and the reason you believe that you don’t need a licence at:

    TV Licensing
    Bristol
    BS98 1TL

In fact, in case that isn’t clear enough I’ve got another quote from another page on their site:

If you use a TV or any other device to receive or record TV programmes (for example, a VCR, set-top box, DVD recorder or PC with a broadcast card) - you need a TV Licence. You are required by law to have one.

Seems pretty clear that it doesn’t matter if the device CAN receive programmes, if you aren’t using it for that (the proof of that would probably be showing one of their people that it isn’t tuned in) then you don’t have to pay a license fee.

EDIT I haven’t heard about it being connectable to a TFT, but I DO know that the full package comes with a high-definiton cable (rather than the standard one that’s in the ‘core system’) which might be what you read about

You are under no legal obligation to write and inform tvl that you do not require a license, fact of the matter is,doing so makes not one blind bit of difference, they still send out their silly threatening letters, the general assumption in the mindset of tvl is that there are two categorys license payers, and license evaders,no license is required if you do not receive broadcast signals, the constant stream of letters threatening one with dire consequences of not having a license are nothing more than bluff, and may be safely filed in the bin, take it from Me,I am over fifty years of age and have never had a tv license the bbc can have money from me when they prise it from my cold dead fingers.
