Textpattern!
As suggested by a commenter I have abandoned Wordpress due to the ethical issues associated with the developers’ deep involvement with Yahoo. What you see now is the TextPattern blogging system. No major changes – and importantly, no hundreds of htaccess redirects to write (because Textpattern can be set to use the same permalink structure as Wordpress). At my end, there is a slight change in the way I write posts, in that Textpattern uses the Textile formatting system. I realise this theme is rather basic, but I’ll hopefully be replacing it soon. Right now, given the limited time I have available with exams looming, I’m concentrating on functionality rather than appearance, namely restoring Trackback, Technorati and the Google Sitemap.

EDIT 2 Through a quick MySQL statement (I should really get round to learning this stuff) I’ve been able to set myself as the author for all the imported posts (it was blank before – but if that is the only problem with the import script I’m not complaining)
