Feedburner too slow

I had previously been using Feedburner for all of the site feeds, but I just discovered that it is taking 9 and a half over five hours to add new posts. Clearly, this is unacceptable, and I’m in the process of restoring the separate feeds. Moving swiftly on!

UPDATE: Following Eric Lunt’s comment it appears that this issue could either be a one-off glitch or a misunderstanding. In either case, I haven’t actually deleted the FeedBurner account yet, and will probably put the redirects back in place once this gets cleared up.

UPDATE 2: It turns out that FeedBlitz is a ‘daily digest’ type service rather than an ‘instant notification’ – so there isn’t anything wrong with FeedBurner after all. My bad!

  1. Eric Lunt Says:

Hey there David. That is certainly not normal behavior … we poll every feed every 30 minutes and the burned feed should be immediately updated. We do submit an If-Modified-Since header with every subsequent request, so sometimes if there’s a mismatch with the server clock and file timestamps that can sometimes cause this kind of behavior. I’d be happy to look into this more on your behalf (email me at eric [at] feedburner.com), but if you do want to move off, make sure you use the “30-day redirect” option so it’s seamless for your subscribers: see http://www.burningdoor.com/feedburner/archives/001251.html for more info on that.
