Christmas is coming!

Well, in the spirit of things I’ve Christmas-ised the theme somewhat. I’ve even managed to google up an online advent calendar for you. Sure, it’s not a replacement for the real thing (mmm… chocolate :P) but it’s a great way to make your computer more Christmassy.

That said, I have managed to dig up a real gem for you folks. LIGHTS95.exe is a freeware program (ancient, as the filename implies!) that will put Christmas lights (of numerous types and colours) on your desktop (and, if you want, play midi files located in the same folder as it) and also comes with a nice ‘snow falling on to text’ screensaver which should be used with ‘Merry Christmas’ at all times. It is utter genius, and is better than any of the ‘pay $20 or else’ shareware versions on Download.com. I seem to remember an antivirus program or two detecting it as a virus a while ago. This is utter bullshit, I have used this on multiple computers for years and it has never done any harm – I would have posted it last year but I couldn’t find a link to it. Give your computer some festive cheer!
