iptables is not setup by default. Nor is Firestarter, which you mention, even installed by default. I was comparing the default installation of Windows XP with the default installation of Ubuntu. The former has a firewall, the latter does not - well, in theory (for nit-pickers like yourself) Ubuntu does have one - but it doesn't have any filtering rules necessary for it to actually function.

Saying that the default iptables on Ubuntu is a 'firewall' is like saying that an empty plastic box nailed to the wall of a building qualifies as a burglar alarm.

Besides which, if you actually read the post I state that the likes of Firestarter are available for Ubuntu. Since you evidently struggle with reading passages of text beyond the initial sentence, I suppose you'll gain little from a quote the relevant passage but I'll put it in for the benefit of others:

Sure, getting one is a simple matter of running Synaptic and downloading the firewall of your choice (Lokkit, Guarddog, and Firestarter are all mentioned in that article), all for free in both senses of the word, but if you don’t do that?

Ubuntu doesn't come with a firewall? That musy be news to me, and everyone else who is using iptables. Heard of that? Thought not. Go back to pointing and clicking dude, and enjoy your Digital Restrictions Managed, malware infested, anti-freedom supporting OS.

(Oh, and for people like yourself, who obviously have no clue what they are talking about, you may wish to go into your ubuntu menu, and execute the 'Firestarter' program. It's specifically designed for noobs like you.

Where did I say I was trying to help out Microsoft? I have three computers, one of which runs Windows XP and the other two of which run variants of Linux (one is a Vaio laptop with Ubuntu, the other an Asus Eee with its modified Xandros). I am not by any means a Microsoft fanboy, but saying that Linux is all good and Microsoft is all bad is just as illogical as Microsoft saying the opposite. Yes, Linux has far superior program management (I'll take apt-get over 'Add/Remove Programs' any day), security, and so on but Windows XP also has its advantages, and pretending otherwise is silly.

I doubt the amazing Microsoft need any support in combating Linux. You are making excuses for a company so big that one man alone wasn't allowed to own it by himself, which make billions of dollars a year and frankly deliver substandard products. Linux comes along, offers FREE programs, support, downloads etc and are trying to offer an alternate. An alternative that hands power over to the user instead of bombarding them with "Welcome to the _____ Wizard."
Microsoft don't need your help, they just want your money.
